The latter is a small and pretty medieval town which appears to be caught in a time warp with a vast array of beautifully preserved buildings, antique shops, cobbled streets, quiet courtyards and beautiful period architecture. It has a total of 70 historical listed buildings. Once home to 17th century playwright Moliere, the theatre tradition and artisans carry on living with year-round performances, workshops and late-night craft markets. Pezenas's mild winters, year round market, long warm summers, medieval heritage, and urban sophistication make it the perfect place to buy a second home, close to the Mediterranean. Like many small towns in the region, it has a vibrant wine industry, but also a sweet industry to visit. Apart from sightseeing and visiting, this old town offers many theatres and cinemas. Within a short drive of Pezenas there is a plethora of must see destinations including sandy beaches, wooded hills and valleys old market towns, thriving fishing villages and quaint vineyards. All amenities are available in the town and its surroundings and the local food market takes place every Saturday.

Traditional dishes include brandade de morue (puree of salt cod, olive oil and milk), encornets farcis (cuttlefish stuffed with sausagemeat and herbs) and bourride (monkfish stew with vegetables, wine and aïoli - a garlic mayonnaise), not forgetting cassoulet, the regional speciality (a rich, slow-cooked casserole of pork, duck, goose and beans).
